Technical seals and radial shaft seals
Radial shaft seals, V-rings and axial seals for gearboxes, pumps, electric motors, machinery and rolling mills.
What it is about
Technical seals must match the medium, temperature, pressure, circumferential speed and the specific installation. We coordinate the enquiry and support the sourcing of suitable shaft seals and technical seals for industrial applications.
With seals in particular, dimensions alone are rarely enough. A shaft seal with the right dimensions but an unsuitable material often fails quickly in operation. That is why we ask about operating conditions right from the start.
Terms such as type A/AS, NBR and FKM or circumferential speed are briefly explained in our glossary.
Product range
What you can enquire about
- Radial shaft seals
- With or without dust lip, rubber-covered or metal outside diameter, single or double lip.
- Shaft seals to common standards
- Designs and dimensions to DIN 3760 or ISO 6194, as well as non-standard sizes.
- NBR, FKM and PTFE versions
- Material selection by medium, temperature and sliding speed, from standard mineral-oil applications to chemically demanding media.
- V-rings
- Axially sealing elastomer rings that rotate with the shaft, for example as a pre-seal against dirt and splash water.
- Axial seals
- Seals that act against a face, for instance on bearing covers and housings.
- Shaft repair sleeves
- Thin-walled sleeves that restore a worn sealing surface without having to machine the shaft.

What information we need
The more complete the information, the faster the supplier can confirm a suitable design. We clarify anything missing together with you.
| Information | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Dimensions | inside diameter, outside diameter, width | e.g. 45 × 62 × 8 mm |
| Shaft and housing | shaft diameter, housing bore, tolerances if known | e.g. shaft ⌀ 45 h11 |
| Medium | fluid or grease to be sealed | e.g. gear oil CLP 220 |
| Temperature | operating and peak temperature | e.g. 80 °C, briefly 110 °C |
| Speed | or circumferential speed at the sealing lip | e.g. 1,450 rpm |
| Pressure | pressure on the medium side, if any | e.g. unpressurised, 0.3 bar |
| Designation | existing material or type designation | e.g. type A, FKM |
| Documents | photo, drawing or sample | JPG, PDF, DWG |
Questions about technical seals
Frequently asked questions
You will find more answers in the general FAQ.
Is it enough to measure the old seal?
As a starting point, yes. Used seals, however, are often deformed or worn. The dimensions of the shaft and housing bore are more reliable, ideally together with a photo of the removed seal.
Which material is the right one?
That mainly depends on the medium, temperature and circumferential speed. NBR is common for many mineral-oil applications, while FKM and PTFE are options for higher temperatures or more aggressive media. The recommendation and approval come from the supplier.
The shaft is grooved where the lip runs. What are the options?
Common solutions are a repair sleeve or a changed installation position of the sealing lip. To clarify this we need the shaft diameter and, if possible, a photo of the wear track.
Can seals be made to sample or drawing?
That depends on the supplier, the design and the quantity. Special designs are enquired individually and confirmed by the manufacturer.
